I have been shopping in Topshop for many years now, though have to admit depsite repeatedly visiting the store it is only every now and then that I can afford to buy something in there as personaly I find some of their clothes to be a little too expensive.
Topshop is a chain store that I am sure most people will recognise and specialise in womens clothes. There is of course also a ‘Topman’ which specialises in mens clothes which is sometimes a seperate store or sometimes a store / section within that of Topshop.
Topshop is known for its up to date fashion and creating new and unique styles. Though most of their clothes do seem to be in ‘trend’ some of them are quite alternative and quirky and are ones that not everyone could pull off making them quite unique.
The store sells most things that you would expect a clothes shop to sell, including clothes, jewellery, hats / gloves / scarves, underwear, accessories, etc.
The store itself I always find to be presented well, it is quite a spacious store and mainly has clothes around the edges of the store with a few items of clothing throughout the middle of the store. It also seems to be split up into ‘sections’ making it nice and easy to find what you’re looking for. So party dresses all seem to be in a simialar area or chinos would all be in a similar area.
There clothese on average seem to range from a size 4/6-16 and I have seen the occassional size 18 in there, although this does seem a wide range of sizes, I do think this is comparibly smaller compared to other highstreet shops such as New Look, Primark and Dorothy Perkins who cater for a considerably larger amount of sizes.
One thing that does bug me in Topshop is that you often have to go a size up as there clothese are quite fitted and tight, so whereas I am normally a size 10 in Topshop more often than not I am often having to buy a size 12. Though this does not bother me too much, I personally don’t think that this is good, especially without the amount of young girls suffering body dismorphia and anorexia and though I am not saying that this will cause it or worsen it in anyway, I do not believe that it will help it.
The clothes all seem to be very good quality. I have bought items such as vests all the way through to thick winter coats from Topshop and they have all lasted me a decent while. The clothes all seem to be cut nicely and therefore hang nicely. This is unlike Primark, where often the stitching / cut is bad making is not fit properly. The clothes seem to be quite thick too and are relativley durable.
The clothes also don’t seem to go as bobbly as quick as other places, I seem to find that clothes from Primark and New Look can go bobbly after three or four washes, however, my clothes from Topshop can go through many more washes before they have the appearance of looking ‘worn’.
Topshop offer a wide range of clothes, however, most of them seem to be the on trend and slightly urban/indie style which are slightly unique and quirky, compared to other stores which cater for a wider range of styles. They sell many different items from vests, to big capes, leggings, jeans, etc. They also sometimes have ‘concessions’ within their store in which other brands / names sell their products within Topshop, such as that of Sweet and Sour. These items tend to sell out quite quickly though.
The only real downside to that of Topshop is the prices as their clothes are very similar to that of Dorothy Perkins and although they may be a little better quality and a little more unique they have a considerably bigger price tag. Whereas a jumper may cost you £15-£20 in New Look, it may cost £40-£50 in Topshop for a fairly similar product. I am unaware as to why their prices are as dear as this as although they do seem to be of better quality I do not think they’re worth this much so I often wait until their sale – they always have a really good sale! Most items have 50% or more off!
I always find the staff to be happy and friendly in there and are always polite. They also always wear Topshop clothes (which I suppose it part of the job) so if you are looking for an outfit then they can often help as they know what they have within their store and what works well together.
Overall I really love Topshop and although I cannot fault the clothes or the staff, I do find the prices to be just too expensive to be shopping in there on a regular basis!
